Closer Than That!

The better team won today, but the match was much closer than the 1 - 6 score would imply. In the first round, Gus Vrattos played one close game after another before the fifth eventually went to Exeter, 12 - 10. Meanwhile, Walker Davey's opponent won the first two games by narrow margins before Davey's fitness and determination allowed him to take control of the match. His high-quality come-back was the highlight of the day in addition to bringing the only win to the Groton team. In the second round, Exeter had the advantage in consistency and experience but the Groton players rose to the occasion to make competitive matches of them. Despite the loss, today's match showed the Groton team's promise in addition to highlighting the importance of fitness in competitive squash.
