A nice win on a windy day

We opened the game playing into a strong wind and looking into the sun, both of which made for a challenge. We withstood a strong St. Mark's onslaught in the opening 10 minutes, including 2 shots off the woodwork and a couple saves from Alec. As we adjusted to the conditions, we began to build and generate some chances of our own. With all 31 players dressed and playing, it looked like a hockey game at times as we made complete substitutions and still had players on the bench. The first half ended 0-0. In the second half, with the wind at our backs, we had the better of the play, with Kellen now cleaning up any St. Mark's opportunities that came to goal. Despite some good opportunities, we couldn't find the back of the net. Finally, with about 5 minutes to play, Foster sent in a well-struck skipping ball that the St. Mark's keeper couldn't handle cleanly, and Zidane tucked home the rebound. This was all we needed, and we were able to end the game the way we started, with all of the 4th formers on the field in their final thirds soccer contest.
