Thirds Football outplays Lowell Catholic

Thirds Football easily handled their opponents from Lowell Catholic on this wet and wild day. After two sets of '10x10' plays where each team was given possession of the ball for ten plays, the teams then had a full quarter of regulation play. Groton played well on both sides of the ball, with great tackling by fourth former Tate Burgin, freshman Kyle Toce, and second former Benson Han. Third former Chris Kadiri intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown. Kadiri also had several tackles for the afternoon, as did fellow third former Josh Poulin. Burgin managed two solo sacks against the Lowell team, setting up great field position for the Zebras in subsequent possessions. Defensive ends Luke Romano and A.J. Colarusso (iii) were key in helping deny their opponent room to run the edges. Offensively, Quarterback Patty Eldridge (iii) scored six points and was overall the leading rusher for the day. Other strong backfield performances were turned in by Han and Kadiri, with excellent blocking help coming from fullbacks Autumn Johnson (vi) and Romano. Linemen Ben Reyes (iii), Burgin, Toce and Poulin, led by center Hugh Carlin (iii) were the cornerstone of a tremendous team effort offensively.
