Fresh Look Fresh Start

After going through a rough patch that ruined everyone’s sleep, Groton rebounded today on Parents’ Weekend with a wonderful team effort. Donning new jerseys that the boys recently purchased (and, in all truth, they look sharp), Groton sought a mojo swing and found it, though they had to work their way there. BBN saw the better of the action from the opening whistle, and with the always dangerous BBN striker Ben Gross-Loh doing his impressive Usain Bolt impersonation, Groton centerbacks Gili Canca and Henry Hodde had their hands full. Eventually, Groton found its way into the game, lifted by the hard work of PK Kenyon and Walker Davey. Through the last part of the first half, it was Groton on the front foot, and when Nick Steinert (back from injury, bless his soul) hit a screamer just before half, BBN’s Zach Regis (fantastic in net all day) did well to parry the swerving, shimmying ball over the net.

In the second half, the game opened up and Groton began to control play, creating many chances that Regis thwarted. In the 58th minute, a Davey corner found Nick Steinert in the box, and Nick headed it home for the crucial goal. Not long after, Max Steinert had a great chance on another corner, but not wanting to steal his brother’s thunder, he politely demurred. BBN’s pacey attack kept the game lively, and since we’re suffering deep psychological scars from the final minutes of some recent games, tension was thick. The players had the good fortune of releasing all of this anxiety with spirited play (the fans simply suffered), and the game was fast, hard, and furious. Relief came with the final whistle.

Rajit Khana and Jack Predreschi combined for our first shutout of the season.
