AOW 1/24 - 1/27

Congratulations to Matt Kandel, Calie Messina, Hanna Wise, and Joe Collins for being named Athletes of the Week!
Matt Kandel/ IVth Form/ Boys' JV Basketball
Matt raised his levels of focus and performance in each of the team’s three victories this past week, culminating with 9 points, 12 rebounds, tough perimeter defense, and dependable ball handling in the team’s 54-33 victory over Tabor Academy this past Saturday. Additionally, Matt has responded well to his coaches throughout the course of the season and has steadily increased his fundamental skills and knowledge of the team’s offensive and defensive schemes. An ever-upbeat member of the team, Matt brings a “can-do” attitude to every practice, which helps to motivate and energize his fellow team mates. Congratulations Matt on a well-earned accolade!

Hannah Wise/ IIIrd Form/ Girls' Var Hockey
GVH would like to recognize Hannah Wise as our Athlete of the Week. As one of our many freshman newcomers, Hannah stepped up this week as a regular contributor to our defensive unit – these games serving as her first string of consecutive, varsity hockey debuts in back to back competitive contests for the Zebra squad. Because of Hannah’s work ethic in practice and attentiveness to the feedback from her coaches and teammates, she adapted well to the pace of the Lawrence game and proved to be effective in her center-back position in both of our matchups this week. But what supersedes Hannah’s on-ice impact this week, is the enthusiasm and support she brings to her teammates each day – always ready to learn, and unfailingly positive. Congrats, Hannah!

Joe Collins/ VIth Form/ Boys' Var Basketball
Joe had a historic week for the boys' varsity team. On Wednesday, he became the 4th Groton student ever to score 1000 points for their career. Joe leads the team in scoring this season averaging around 15/16 points per game and has be a exemplirary captain for the team. He has really picked up his play on both ends of the floor and is poised for a strong end of the season run over the next eight games.
