AOW 11/29 - 12/2

Congratulations to Jonah Gold, Elena Junkala, Johnny Stankard, and Alyna Baharozian for being named Athletes of the Week
CONGRATULATIONS!

Athletes of the Week:

Jonah Gold/ Vth Form/ Boys' Varsity Hockey
Jonah Gold got things going for the boys’ varsity hockey team this week when he scored four goals in a 6-2 victory again North Yarmouth Academy on Wednesday afternoon.  Jonah also added an assist.  His tenacious play and quick footwork allowed Groton to generate lots of offense for the teams first win of the season.
- Bill Riley and Tim LeRoy

Elena Junkala/IIIrd Form/ Girls' Varsity Hockey
Elena has been an immediate difference-maker on the ice for the young Zebra squad, both in her positional play and her play making abilities on the ice. She notched two goals in her first high school game for Groton on Wednesday against Berwick Academy, one of which was the game-winner. Elena also helped her team fight back in a come-from-behind tie against a talented KUA team, where she played a role in all special teams play (penalty killing and powerplay), which dominated much of the game on Saturday afternoon. We are excited to work with such a coachable, team-oriented, hardworking student-athlete.
- Randi Dumont, Bert hall

Johnny Stankard/ Vth Form/ Boys' Varsity Basketball
Johnny began the season with his best game as a member of the varsity team. Though we couldn't come away with the victory against Pingree, Johnny's aggressive play led the team in scoring with 17 points. He has been with the team since 2nd form and I believe this will be a breakout year for him.
- Harold Francis, Cory Varrell, Andrew Zinck

Alyna Baharozian/ VIth Form/ Girls' Varsity Basketball
In a back and forth game with St. Paul's, captain Alyna Baharozian led the team in scoring with 15 points and followed that up with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Though we didn't come away with the win, Alyna led the team by example and we are going to need her throughout the course of the season
- Joe Crail, Stacey Spring, Kate Dennison
