Athlete Of the Week 1/18/17

Congratulations to Michael Xiao, Doug Altshuler, Ethan Walsh, Lyndsey Toce, Daniel Meehan, and Sarah Conner on being the Athletes Of the Week!
Michael Xiao – “Michael scored 19 points (including 2 three pointers), shot 9 for 11 from the free throw line, and had six steals in a close loss (49-54) to Belmont Hill. More importantly, he showed great poise and leadership – playing great defense, bringing the ball up the court under constant pressure, running the offense skillfully, and listening to his coaches throughout the game – all in ways indicative of both his experience and hard work during practices. In an outstanding team effort against one of our most challenging, skilled opponents, Michael’s performance raised the level of play of his teammates, all of whom played very well both individually and as a team. Congratulations Mike!”—Coahces Mazzaferro, Nelson, and Lamont

Doug Altshuler – “Boy’s JV Puck goalie registered his first career shutout in a 3-0 win over Littleton much to the delight of the crowd and his teammates. Doug made several tough saves in picking up his second victory of the season.” —Coach Sheedy

Ethan Walsh – “Boy’s JV Puck forward played the two best games of his career over the past weekend leading his team to two victories. Without the benefit of scaring a goal Ethan set the tone for both wins with his constant hustle and hard work.”—Coach Sheedy

Lyndsey Toce – “Against Dana Hall on Saturday 1/14/17 Lyndsey had a great all-around game as she had had 10 points, 9 steals, and 8 rebounds. Lyndsey’s effort helped the girls varsity basketball team win their 4th game in a row.”—Coach Crail

Daniel Meehan – “Daniel was our leading scorer in both games this week, scoring 8 points against Fenn and 13 against Governor’s, including swishing in a long three pointer at the buzzer to send the game against Governor’s into overtime.  He was then able to take advantage of the adrenaline of the moment, adding another four points in overtime to help lead the team to an eventual 44-35 victory.  Daniel has been our most consistent shooter, particularly from long range, knocking in 6 three pointers over the two games, and he has also played disciplined defense.”—Coach Bannard

Sarah Conner – “GV squash will nominate Sarah Conner, who was 2/0 down and won in 5 last Wednesday against Brooks away. She was patient and took her coaches and teammates advice well and stuck to her task. She was also playing at 3, a position up, because our number 1 was ill.”—Coach Tootill
