Zebras Top Lions In Rivalry Tilt

J Funnell
Max Strong got the Zebras going with a goal in the game's opening minute, but St. Mark's rebounded to claim a slim 2-1 lead after the first quarter.  The second quarter was all Groton, though, with Strong adding two more before Hugh Carlin, Theo Koukopoulos, and Tyler Bowden scored to stake the Zebras to a 6-2 halftime lead.  The game seemed well in hand with the lead extended to 7-2 after 3 quarters, but St. Mark's mounted a late comeback to narrow the lead to 7-5 midway through the final frame.  Sam Quigley took charge in the final minutes, killing the clock effectively and drawing numerous penalties before Connor Hall sealed the game with a point blank tally in the game's final seconds.  The defensive backline of Luke Romano, Mike Walsh, and Tate Burgin kept the Lions under wraps close to the cage, limiting them to outside shots and most of those wound up in Lucas Gordon's goalie crosse. The Zeebs dominated on ground balls with middies Andtrew Mazza, Trey Whitehead, and Max Strong helping Sam Quigley maintain control the game - a great win and a great cap to the season.
