Groton beats an undefeated Middlesex team

It was a battle of two undefeated ISL teams on a cloudy, but nice, New England Saturday: Middlesex vs. Groton on our home courts. A year earlier, Middlesex played a great match in which the outcome was in doubt until late in the match. Though Groton won last year, the boys knew how strong and well-coached a team this was.

The boys responded with some of their best play of the year. Groton won the doubles point after Kandel/Yang and Gura/Jones closed out their sets. Huddling before singles, Coach Conner urged the boys to take care of business on each court. And, that, they did. The boys swept all sets, with the exception of number #2, where Groton dropped a very tight match in the third set super-tiebreaker.

The match was a spirited one, full of goodwill and exemplary sportsmanship.

The boys head to Roxbury Latin on Monday afternoon, making up for a match that was rescheduled. This match will again be a contest of two undefeated teams. Stay tuned.
