A Good Game versus Applewild Ends with a Win for Zebras

Peter Fry
The Groton Boys' Thirds Baskeball team got back into winning form this afternoon by beating a hardworking, well-coached team from Fitchburg.  Fourth Former Alex Brown was our scoring leader again -- this time with 11 points, including a nice second-half trey.  Other scorers for us were Malcolm Fry (8 points), Noah Bay (6 points), Ziggy Bereday (5 points), Patty Eldredge (4 points), Carlos Soto (2 points), Jack Wang (2 points), Hugh Carlin (2 points), Josh Poulin (2 points), Kyle Toce (2 points), and proud Applewild alumnus A. J. Colarusso (2 points).   We kept our visitors in the game by committing far too many fouls.  Applewild's star player, Jayant Talwar, played extremely well and took no fewer than 22 free throws, making an impressive 17 of them;  he ended up with a total of 25 points in the game.  It was also fun seeing Aiden Kelly (the son of our own Dr. Kelly) playing for the visiting Hawks today.  It's hard to believe that we're already heading into the final stretch of the season; our next contest is on Wednesday, February 13 at Brooks School in North Andover.
