A good effort against a tough opponent

After enjoying a surprise holiday yesterday, we arrived to the rink to face a strong Cushing team. Several players were in new positions (Alex and Daphne on D, Lilly at center), and all acquitted themselves well. Morayo was fabulous in goal, and we needed her to be. Though our forwards and D blocked about 20 Cushing shots, I'd bet close to 40 made their way through to Morayo. There were moments of success for each player, with battles won along the boards, passes completed to teammates, pressure on opponents leading to turnovers, and stepping up in the neutral zone adding to the fun of the blocked shots. None of these moments, however, was greater than Becky's goal in the second period. Becky perfectly tipped Gracie's shot, changing its direction just enough to sneak through the Cushing goalie's legs before she could react. Unfortunately, one was all we could muster, and they managed to get four past Morayo. Next up is a road trip to Lawrence Academy next Wednesday.
