Groton Repeats as ISL Champions!

They've done it again! The Groton girls took down St. Marks to finish 12-0 in the ISL and have been crowned champions in back-to-back seasons.

It was a perfect day for tennis in Southborough, as the two teams celebrated 136 years of the epic school rivalry. The match started with doubles, and Groton took an early lead as captains Julie and Aimee teamed up for a dominant 8-0 win at #3. St. Marks was playing inspired tennis at #1 and #2, pushing Groton's top pairings to the brink. The teams would split the remaining two matches, and Groton took a 2-1 lead into singles play.

The heart of Groton's line-up went to work and took control of the match. With impressive wins at #3, #4, and #5, the Lady Zeebs finished off the Lions to clinch the match and the title. Ella, Aimee, and April's wins capped off undefeated seasons for each of them in the ISL. They went a combined 35-0 in league singles play.

With the match in hand, the teams gathered to watch Lindy battle against a close friend at #1. After trailing the entire first set, she rallied to win 9-7 in the tie-breaker and then motored along to a 6-0 second set win. Groton 7, St. Marks 2.

The team hopped back on the bus to return to the Circle as champions. The girls won 15 straight duel matches to end the year. A season that started with incredibly high expectations ends with a trophy in hand. This team was a tight-knit family that lifted each other up all year and battled on the court while representing their school with so much pride and respect. With the young core remaining intact for several more years, the sky is the limit for these zebras.

Next match is at home against Andover on 4/6/24. 👀
