Test Passed

The St. Mark's team is improving rapidly but Groton still holds the upper hand in this traditional rivalry. Today's lopsided team score is misleading. In fact, most of the individual matches were very competitive. On one court after another, the play was close enough that points and games could have gone either way but the Groton players displayed enough focus and poise to find an edge.

The first matches were especially tight. After three close games, Kevin Cai was up 2-1 but his lead could easily have slipped away if he had not taken control of the pace to run away with the fourth game, 11-4. After a seesaw beginning brought Carter Lightburn's score to 1-1, he settled into solid, consistent play to win two more close games. Lucas Li narrowly lost his first two games but kept retrieving with determination and playing smart squash to come back and eventually take the last two games, 12-10 and 11-9.

With the team carrying a hard-earned 3-0 lead into the second round of matches, Damien Man, Charlie Weisberg, Jack Lionette, and Ronin Kaplan all remained consistent through their opponents' strong pushes and ultimately brought the team a full sweep.
