Chaplain

Groton School seeks a school chaplain to oversee the spiritual life of its students and to care for the school’s Episcopal tradition. Consistent with the Episcopal tradition, the chaplain must be open to including readings and prayers from other world religions in the weekday services and to creating an environment welcoming to people of many faiths. Dedicated to inclusivity, the school increasingly is home to students of diverse religious backgrounds. The chaplain is expected to collaborate with and encourage leaders of other religious groups on campus.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings begin with an 8:00 a.m. chapel service of about twenty-five minutes. The chaplain coordinates and leads these weekday services, which typically include a prayer, a reading, and a fifteen-minute talk by a member of the school community, most often a student. All students also are required to attend a weekend worship service, according to their faith, and the chaplain is responsible for planning and leading the Sunday Episcopal service in St. John’s Chapel.

This is a faculty position; the chaplain participates in the general life of the school and usually lives on campus in school housing. Please send a cover letter, resume, and references to Andy Anderson, Associate Head of School, c/o Rita Lalli, PO Box 991, Groton, MA, 01450, or submit by email to candidates@groton.org (note "Chaplain" in the subject line).
