Andrew Price

Music Instructor: Oboe and chamber music

Andrew Price, oboe, is principal oboist for the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and plays regularly with the Boston Pops Orchestra as well as the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He is a graduate of Boston University, where he studied oboe with the late Ralph Gomberg, principal oboe of the Boston Symphony. His teachers include Jonathan Dlouhy, former principal oboe with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Larry Thorstenberg, former English Horn of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. More recently, Mr. Price has joined the faculty of Boston University as a Lecturer of oboe and has been an assistant faculty member of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute since 1997. His playing is featured on the documentary series, The American Experience, produced by WGBH. For 18 years, Mr. Price played principal oboe with The Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra, where he performed the American premieres of the newly reconstructed Largo from the lost Beethoven Oboe Concerto, as well as Thomas Oboe Lee's Oboe Concerto, Persephone, written for Andrew and dedicated to his teacher, Ralph Gomberg. The Boston Globe describes his playing as "beautifully sensitive and eloquent" and "first-rate."
