Groton Debater Qualifies for World Competition
Another Groton School debater has qualified to compete in the world championship, highlighting a tournament that included several first-place finishes for Groton.
Debating Society Co-President Rowen Hildreth '23 is heading to the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship in Durban, South Africa in March, after scoring as the best individual speaker at a November 6 tournament at St. Paul's School. Eight interscholastic debate tournaments are designated as qualifier tournaments for the world competition, including the weekend debate at St. Paul's, said Michael Gnozzio ’03, Groton math teacher and debate advisor. Congratulations to the cast of Twelve Angry Jurors! The early November production resonated in today's political climate, evoking commentary on prejudice and truth, despite being written by Reginald Rose in 1954 (and originally being titled Twelve Angry Men).

Give 2 What You Love, our seventh annual Give2Groton event, was successful once again this year, with 518 donors. To all of you who gave to what you love—thank you!
Did You Know? The Blizzard of 1888 lasted four days in mid-March. Groton boys were only allowed to leave their dorms in pairs, lest they get disoriented and lost in the blinding snow. Two intrepid Sixth Formers donned snowshoes and trekked to the local market to buy meat for the students. Other record-setting storms included the Blizzard of '78, which dumped about twenty-seven inches of snow on the Circle, and, more recently, the 2015 whopper with thirty inches.
