Groton's music prefects have wrapped up a wonderful holiday gift, combining the Groton Pops and an open mic into a festive celebration.
Parts of this student-produced video were recorded on campus (wind instruments and singing were not permitted, but percussion and stringed instruments were). Performing Arts Department Head Mary Ann Lanier and Jazz Ensemble Director Kenji Kikuchi directed the orchestra and jazz performances and mixed the pieces that students recorded—from their living rooms, basements, and yards. Music prefects Jane Park '21 and Anna Pimentel '21, who organized this concert, are your emcees. Enjoy!

| Did You Know? On Ascension Day (the fortieth day of Easter) in 1899, the ground was broken for Groton School's Chapel. The Chapel, given by one of Groton's founding masters, William Amory Gardner, was designed by the architect Henry Vaughn, who later went on to design Washington's National Cathedral. The cornerstone was laid on Prize Day, and under this first stone is said to contain a copper box filled with coins, photographs of various Groton buildings, and copies of school publications including the school catalog and the Grotonian. | Groton Trivia Choirs throughout Groton School's history have processed into the Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols singing Once in Royal David's City. However, for the services of 1931 through 1936 another traditional Christmas hymn was selected for the processional. What was the hymn? Submit your answer here. The first correct answer will receive a Groton t-shirt. November's Answer Michael Beran '84, P'20, '23 answered our November trivia question correctly: The original football uniform was blue and white. It consisted of a blue-and-white striped jersey, blue knickerbockers, blue stockings, and blue caps. These were the colors at Cheltenham, the Rector's school in England. They were also the St. Mark's team colors, so Groton opted to revise the colors to red, white, and black. |
