Rest Day with New Friends
Today was our (sort of) rest day.
I woke up nice and early at 10:53 AM, and after getting ready, I waited with much excitement for the Orkeeswa students to pull up to the lodge at 11:30 AM. The Groton students and faculty gathered themselves by the gate and eagerly awaited as the bus door opened. I found my two friends Abdul and Salim and after welcoming them into the lodge, we walked towards the compound behind the dining area, made a circle and played a quick and helpful name game where we named every person that came before you before stating your own name. We split the circle in half to make two teams and we had played some competitive games, and although my team lost, we all had a lot of fun. When the games were over, we walked towards the lunch line buffet, and since me and Nolan missed breakfast we made sure we were the first in line. As we were eating together, Salim asked me if I wanted to build up on the song that we freestyled together the day before, so after lunch we got to writing. Salim’s passion for music is something that I also have, so writing our masterpiece Love and Loss was a special part of today. With the help of some friends (Namyak, Winnie, Abdul, and Semira) we were able to complete most of the song. After some songwriting, I learned some dance moves from Eva and Winnie, but the pains that come with old age hindered me from participating with maximum capabilities. After dancing we escorted them to the bus, said our goodbyes and we have been sitting around a huge table for the past hour or two listening to music and making bracelets. Right now it is 6:40 PM, and dinner will be served at 7. I will be eating some carrot soup, beef stir fry with rice flowers and coconut cake for desert. We are all ready for a good meal to end our Sunday.
