Last Days and Nights and a Few Realizations
Our trip is coming to an end....
Okay so basically today the original plan was to sleep in today and arrive to the school late, as the Orkeeswa students would be in their academic classes so we Groton students wouldn’t really have much to do. But we petitioned against this plan because we all wanted to spend as much time as we could on campus as it was our last day at the school. I had a hard time waking up today, as I may or may not have stayed up late talking with my friends. Usually at home when I go to bed late it's because I stay up late on my phone. I feel pretty guilty after. Last night, I stayed up late talking. The only guilt I feel is that I didn’t stay and talk more.
Okay… so after I pulled myself out of bed, I ate a light breakfast, hopped on the bus, and made my way (along with everyone else) to Orkeeswa. I was especially excited today because today was the day where I would get to see the rough cut of the film in which I was honored to be able to act as one of the two main characters. To clarify, I have have never ever acted in any sort of production before so it was pretty cool to feel famous when I was surrounded by cameras and microphones. Anyway, we had finished shooting a few days ago, so I had already been waiting for a bit. But, before seeing the rough cut of the film, there were a few other things we did.
The second half of our poetry workshop. We had worked on the first half yesterday, where we spoke about experiences we have had in life, and some of us recored the phrases which sounded poetic. Today, we grouped the phrases together to create poems. Pretty cool.
Lunch. I had the best chicken of my life. No joke. And it’s pretty random too, because usually the food is good, but like nothing crazy. Today the chicken was so so good.
Ok then finally I got to see the rough cut of the film. It was good. I felt kinda strange seeing myself, because it was me but not really me. I had a pretty intense derealiziation episode. But aside from that, it felt really really cool. Like really cool. I felt like a star. It was also really cool as the film couldn’t have been made without Groton, and especially could not have been made without Orkeeswa. Two peas in a pod. Pretty cool.
Today is the last night of the trip, and aIl I have to say, it was alot different than I had expected. I don’t really know what I had expected, but it was different. Here are some things that surprised me.
Everyone seemed crazy happy, like they really wanted to be there. (they did).
The food was so basic but so good.
I grew alot closer to people than I thought I would (that being both people from Groton and Orkeeswa).
The safari was not at all the highlight.
Connecting with Orkeeswa students was the highlight.
I suck at basketball (although I do have an excuse, a torn achilles.)
I am decent at the guitar.
I like seeing people smile.
People are good. May seem basic, but it's true.
I don’t need my phone.
So yeah, that sums it up. Well not really, but this paired with other blogs probably will.
Ciao!
