Day 9 - Back to Ollantaytambo!

The group woke up to a cold morning at the Pumamarca campsite, watching the sun rise from behind the Andean mountain range. Breakfast consisted of pancakes, fruit salad, yogurt, and mate. Our tour guide, Fernando, took us up to the Incan ruins located a few minutes’ hike from the campsite, where we learned about the significance of rock piles and the building methods of the Incan homes and fortresses we observed. Then, after packing up our tents, we began our descent. Fernando introduced us to the town of Muris, a small town that continues to thrive on agriculture and Inca tradition. Lunch was served by the river, and afterwards we continued on our way. The rest of the trek back was marked by music courtesy of Mr. Fernandez’s phone and Rex’s speaker, and before we knew it, we had returned to Ollantaytambo. Upon our return, we were greeted by hot showers and beds, and some free time with our host families. While our trip to Pumamarca was exciting, we are happy to be back!
