Day 10 - The Big Game

Erika Gonzalez & Brendan Koh

Today, we all woke up this morning after a long day of walking and a good night’s rest to go to catholic mass. We observed how Incan culture is incorporated into catholicism here in Ollantaytambo. Then we returned to our homestays before going to our “Pachamanca” luncheon. It is a typical Peruvian tradition where the food being served is cooked with coal underground. We were served chicken, potatoes, guinea pig, pork, and green beans. Everyone’s homestay family attended this event, and it was a great opportunity to bond with them. Afterwards, we all went to a nearby turf for the traditional Groton v.s. Ollantaytambo soccer game. The event was split into teams of boys and girls, and each team tied with respective scores of 5-5 and 1-1. Afterwards, we returned to Tumy House for our nightly check-in and then went home to our families to have dinner. As the day comes to a close, we are all looking forward to having empanadas and hanging out together tonight!
