No-Hitter!

Shane Kim '19 pitched a no-hitter for Groton on Saturday, handcuffing Nobles for seven innings in a 2–0 Groton victory.

No hits, nine strikeouts, three walks—and two of those runners were thrown out at second base by catcher Cam Schmitt '18.

“Shane pitched a tremendous game from start to finish." Coach Glenn DiSarcina said. "He controlled both sides of the plate and kept the Nobles hitters guessing all day. His mix of pitches and control of the strike zone were key."

Groton only had two hits, but both were pivotal. Bennett Smith '19 had a RBI double and scored on Nick David '18’s RBI single.

No-hitters are very rare in Groton baseball history. In 2007, standout pitcher Colby Mattheson '08 stopped Middlesex with a no-hitter. Before that, in 1977, pitcher Steve Brock '77 stymied Milton Academy.

Note: This story corrects an earlier version that had the last Groton no-hitter in 1977.
