| Four Steps Forward for Groton's Iconic Schoolroom Since 1904, Groton’s iconic Schoolroom has featured a pantheon of busts—all white men, from Shakespeare and George Washington to Socrates and Goethe.
On November 12, 2021, the Schoolroom welcomed four new faces with the installation of sculptures representing Eleanor Roosevelt, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Rosa Parks. With these new busts, the Schoolroom—at the front of Groton’s central academic building, the 1899 Schoolhouse—now better reflects world history, the school’s commitment to inclusion, and the composition of Groton’s student body today. | Groton School welcomed nearly three hundred families to Parents Weekend, October 29–31, the first in-person Parents Weekend since 2019. The weekend was filled with a variety of activities, from student performances and parent receptions to the headmaster’s annual address. | Sixth Formers A.J. Colarusso, Sebastian El Hadj, Patrick Eldredge, and Aine Ley, along with recent graduate Cassidy Thibodeau ’21, formally celebrated their college athletic intentions on November 10, the day when many athletes sign National Letters of Intent. A.J. and Patty both signed such letters of intent—A.J. to pitch for Boston College’s baseball team and Patty to play lacrosse at Colgate University. Aine and Sebastian both have committed to row, Aine at Dartmouth and Sebastian at Cornell. Cassidy will head to the field hockey turf at University of North Carolina. Continued |

The 100-page read combines memoir and local history to trace the origins of the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Did You Know? Eight bells were installed in the Chapel tower on November 3, 1900, and they were rung for the first time on December 11 of that year. In 1962, however, the bells were returned to the foundry, broken up, and recast into the ten bells that our bell ringers ring today.
