Fenway Face-Off! Groton Plays St. Mark's January 8

It's official! Groton School's boys ice hockey team will face off against St. Mark's at Fenway Park.

The rivalry dates to 1886. Fenway Park, home to the Boston Red Sox, was built in 1912. Legend meets legend on the ice January 8, 2014 at 5:30 p.m.

"We're thrilled and honored to play in one of the country's most historic and hallowed sports venues, let alone against our historic rivals," says Groton Athletic Director Robert Low.
 
Fenway Sports Management's "CITI Frozen Fenway 2014" events include various college and community hockey games this winter. On January 8, 2014, eight Independent School League teams will play: St. Paul's vs. Governor (girls) at 1:30 p.m.; Brooks vs. BB&N at 3:15 p.m.; Groton vs. St. Mark's at 5:30 p.m.; and Belmont Hill vs. St Sebastian's at 7:45 p.m.

The Groton team, coached by Bill Riley, Jonathan Choate, and Tim Leroy and captained by Matt Pompa '14, Joe Gentile '14, and Andrew Popp '14, look forward to January 8 with enthusiasm. "Groton has a tremendous amount of respect for St. Mark's, and we are thrilled to compete against them at Fenway Park," says Coach Riley. "Showcasing our long-standing rivalry at the oldest and most historic ballpark in the country will be a unique and rewarding experience for the players, their family and friends, and Groton alumni. It's going to be exciting and memorable for everyone involved."
