Congratulations to Sammy Johnson (GV Hockey), Elle Despres (GJV Hockey), and Joe Collins (BV Basketball) on being the Athletes Of the Week!
“Sixth Form co-captain, Sammy Johnson demonstrated a comprehensive commitment to her team hockey endeavors last week, volunteering to skate out against NYA and fulfilling her traditional role between the pipes against Milton. Her efforts against NYA inspired the team in crucial moments, as she displayed work ethic in the most raw, visceral fashion. On Saturday, Sammy turned away all 28 shots she received from a talented Milton squad, allowing her team the confidence to seal a 1-0 lead in a pivotal game for the girls’ hockey program. The leadership exhibited by Sammy last week was not only impressive, but essential to the ever-growing competitive drive of her team.”—Coach Dumont
“Elle selflessly volunteered to play goalie mid-game, following an injury to her teammate. She continued to play goalie at our next game against St. Marks and made crucial saves that kept us in the game. Elle deserves credit for her sportsmanship and athleticism in taking on the job of goalie in a pinch for GJVH.”—Coach Petroskey and Coach Posillico
“After starting the year in a mini slump, Joe has really begun to pick up his game since the New Year. Over the past four games he is averaging 19.6 points, is playing at a very high level, and is standing out as one of our main scorers.”—Coach Francis
