Team Of the Week 12/5/2015

Congratulations to Girls' Varsity Hockey on being this season's first Team Of the Week! We look forward to a great season, and good luck to all teams this week! 

 

"We have not opened the season 2-0 in at least 5 years, and we played two teams that were ranked top 10 in the small school (Div II) division last year. With only 4 team practices under our belts and a crash course instruction for our team strategy/systems, the kids really pulled off an impressive week. We surprised Berwick Academy with a 2-1 win in OT and a talented KUA team 1-0 (albeit with a little luck, but a win is a win, right!?). Its hard to choose an athlete of the week because there were a handful, which is why I am nominating for team of the week. Piper Higgins scored the game winner in the OT game, and Angelina Joyce the game-winner against KUA. Newcomer Joyce has factored in to every goal of the season so far with 2 goals and an assist - huge impact. Goalies Sammy Johnson and Min Shin each earned a win. Sophomore goalie Min Shin played her angles well on Saturday up at KUA - big time shoulder pad save at point blank range with less than 5 seconds remaining in the game to secure the win. Imani McGregor forechecked her face off on Saturday and really helped us earn momentum at crucial times. I can't choose. Such a collective effort from the team for the opening week of the season."-- Coach Dumont
