Athletes of the Week

Fall 2014, Week 3
Lucy Chatfield '18 (Girls JV Soccer)
Lucy has really stood out to us this week. She has worked tremendously hard in practice and all that effort translated seamlessly into our game against Rivers. She’s becoming a contributor on the defense, and her impact in moving the ball up the field through the midfield is also making a difference in our offense. Lucy is a competitive player whose hard work and determination is paying off. Well done Lucy!

Jack Fanikos '17 (Boys Cross Country)
John ran our course 1 minute and 42 seconds faster than he did a month ago and 2 minutes and 41 seconds faster than he raced it at about the same time last year! He has been a dedicated, determined, and disciplined runner who has been climbing the ladder and racking up results for our team!
—John Capen

Verity Lynch '17 (Girls Cross Country)
For the third week in a row Verity has led Groton's pack of runners 2 through 5 to increasingly tougher performances and faster times. In Groton's double-win on Friday over Rivers and Lawrence, Verity was the lynchpin of our team success. Verity led the varsity chase pack along at a strong pace until she pulled away in the last mile, besting her 5K time from last week by a whole minute and steadily closing the gap between herself and the race leaders (including teammate and race winner Maddy Forbess). Verity shows grit and determination in each practice and race, and her performance this week was a testament to her consistent training and confident racing.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Boys’ Thirds Soccer
Boys’ Thirds Soccer had a strong showing last week with two wins and a tie. It was a total team effort with 8 different players contributing in the scoring of 12 goals, a hard working midfield that contributed many assists and a strong defense that produced two shut outs. The team should be commended for their enthusiasm and hustle.
