Athletes of the Week

Fall 2014, Week 2
Annie McElgunn '15 (Girls Varsity Field Hockey)
Annie scored a hat-trick in a heart-breaker against Brooks, which we lost 4-3, having gone down 3-0 in the first half.  No one scores without the help of her teammates, but Annie was the one who was able to capitalize, taking advantage of the scoring work we’ve done in practice in the past week, especially on tip-ins.  Her hat-trick matches our total score in the previous three games which include a win and two ties.
—Megan Harlan, Kathy Leggat

Simon Colloredo-Mansfeld '15 (Boys Varsity Cross Country)
Simon has been an inspirational leader, not only with his words in practice (cheering us up boathouse hill with chants he learned from Bubba) and his psych notes ("Press on we must! We are all capable of getting much faster between now and New England's, but it will take a lot of hard work and discipline.”), but also with his determination and drive. He passed seven runners during the course of Saturday’s race against Belmont Hill, Milton, and St. Mark’s and broke the twenty minute threshold to finish the 5K in 19:48.

Carrie Moore '17, Caroline Morss '15, Piper Higgins '17, Marie Wesson '15 & Amani Jiu '17—Girls Varsity Soccer
While our offensive play against Brooks grabbed people’s attention, it was the defensive work of this group that made up for the absence of Ali Lamson.  They deserve special recognition for their mental and physical toughness as well as their ability to adapt quickly to changing tactics.  Marie also scored a fantastic goal to open the scoring for Groton.
