Groton alumnus Mike Doherty ’12 was invited to the Boston Bruins’ Development Camp this July. Now playing hockey for Yale, the forward really enjoyed and soaked in his time at the camp. “The week was about learning how to be a pro more than anything,” Doherty said. “We had meetings about how to conduct ourselves on social media and did mock interviews, and we learned which community service events to attend.”
For Mike, the week was exciting: “Being from Boston, it's a dream to put on the Bruins jersey, and even the practice jersey was surreal,” he said. “All of my family and friends were in the [crowd], which made it even cooler.”
Twenty-three players attended the developmental camp, including only 13 forwards (Mike’s position). The camp took place at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, Massachusetts, but for fun the players got to go to Fenway and take batting practice, which Doherty describes as “something I’ll never forget.”
For now though, Mike is keeping his thoughts on the Yale hockey team. “I have three seasons left here, and I want to make the most of them,” he said. “We want to get back to winning championships, and that's our goal right now.” It will certainly be fun to watch Doherty help Yale try to reach its championship goals.
