Sunday Bliss

In the spirit of unexpected delights, this Sunday at Groton greeted us with a blanket of snow engulfing the campus, altering my friends and my plans. The change in course turned out to be a welcomed surprise, offering an opportunity to revel in the enchantment of the freshly falling snow. Initially, my friends and I had planned to take a trip to the mall near Groton to look for dresses for the Winter Formal. However, in light of the conditions, all trips for the day were canceled.

Hailing from Dubai, where snow is more of a mythical concept than a reality, the experience was transformative. Growing up amidst the perpetual warmth of the desert, the novelty of snow remains a staple of my life here. I had never seen snow before coming to Groton in second form. So, every time I feel the pattering kisses of snowflakes on my skin, I can’t help but grab my friends and paint the town red outside.  Instead of the anticipated plans, the day became a celebration of winter's beauty, replete with snowball fights (which I sorely lost), crafting snow angels, and sled rides down the football field. Life's surprises, it seems, are often the sweetest.
