Groton Tennis Serves Up Sweet End to Season at NEPSITT

Four of Groton's best boys tennis players didn't disappoint at the New England Prep School Invitational Tennis Tournament (NEPSITT), winning the doubles tournament and the B singles competition and placing third in A singles.
Groton outperformed all the schools gathered at Choate Rosemary Hall for the season-ending May 28 tournament.

MacGregor Beatty '17 and Sam Girian '18, Groton’s top doubles team, were the #1 seed, based on their strong play throughout the season. They lived up to their billing by sweeping through the tournament, not dropping a single set.

"They served and volleyed brilliantly, playing together as a very strong duo," says Coach John Conner P'11, '14, '16, '19. "It was an exciting performance by two skilled doubles specialists." En route to their championship, they knocked off teams from Loomis Chaffee, Choate, and Tabor.

Meanwhile, Captain Michael You '16 represented the team in the “A” draw,  playing some of the best tennis of his career. Michael beat a strong player from Deerfield to earn a berth in the semi-finals, where he played Andover’s #1, losing 10–7 in a hard-fought pro set. Michael went on to beat another excellent player from Exeter, 8–6, to secure a third-place finish.

In the “B” draw, Nico Davidoff '17 won the division with victories over players from Loomis Chaffee, Choate, and Deerfield. "Nico was absolutely brilliant," says Coach Conner. "He hit well, fought tenaciously, and came out on top. It was a superb performance by one of the team’s most spirited players."

The tournament was a fairy-tale ending for a team that finished at 12–3 in the Independent School League. “What an amazing team effort at the NEPSITT tournament,"  said Coach Conner. "I couldn’t have been prouder of the camaraderie and dazzling play of these Groton boys."
